Police in California are on the hunt for two people they say strapped a stick of dynamite to a dog and set it loose in a Sacramento neighborhood.

The explosion, heard around 11 a.m. on Wednesday, severely injured the dog, which police described as a long-haired Dachshund. They expect the animal will survive its injuries.

A police report claimed that two people, a male and a female, were involved in the incident. An investigation is ongoing.
