In an interview with Reason.TV’s Nick Gillespie, Zach Wahls explained how being raised by his two lesbian mothers impacted his view of politics and same sex marriage in particular.

“There are probably two very large misconceptions,” Wahls said. “The first is that there is something inherently immoral about homosexuality, and therefore the children will be somehow immoral.”

Wahls gained Internet fame in 2011 after video of his testimony before the Iowa House Judiciary Committee went viral. The 20-year-old University of Iowa engineering student has since written a book about same sex parents, My Two Moms: Lessons of Love, Strength and What Makes a Family.

Wahls said he hoped other children who have same sex parents would benefit from reading the book.

“Look, I think there are a lot of people out there who want to talk trash about your family and say that you’re a child abuse victim or whatever,” he said. “I’m here to say that is not true.”
