Houston waiter receives $5,000 tip

A waiter in Houston, Texas will lay claim to one of the biggest tips ever received for someone in his profession, telling KPRC-TV that he was given $5,000 from a pair of regular customers.

Greg Rubar has been a waiter at D’Amico’s restaurant for 16 years, but never had a day like the one he witnessed on Saturday.

“He said, ‘We’re still going to come in, but we’re not going to tip you for a while,’ Rubar said Wednesday. “He said ‘This is for you to go and buy a nice car.’”

Rubar had lost his car in a storm several weeks ago, resulting in him taking cabs and buses to get to work.

D’Amico’s co-owner Brina D’Amico Donaldson admitted her obvious shock at the size of the tip, but indicated how Rubar is one person who deserves such a pleasant surprise.

“He’s an incredibly hard worker. He would work every shift if we would let him,” he said.
