Obama campaign strategist David Axelrod took the president’s re-election pitch to his opponent’s home turf in Boston on Thursday, but presumptive Republican presidential nominee Mitt Romney’s supporters did their best to drown out his message.

During a news conference outside the Massachusetts Statehouse, Axelrod faced relentless booing, heckling and chanting from protesters in the crowd.

“I get tweets from some of these folks, so I feel close to them,” Axelrod joked.

“You can shout down speakers my friends, but it’s hard to Etch A Sketch the truth away,” he added, referring to an embarrassing gaffe by Romney’s spokesperson earlier this year.

“Where are the jobs? Where are the jobs?” the protesters chanted.

“You can’t handle the truth, my friend,” the campaign adviser later told the demonstrators. “That’s the problem. If you could handle the truth, you’d quiet down.”
