Earlier this week, Fox News’s morning show “Fox and Friends” unveiled a four-minute attack ad aimed at President Barack Obama. The slickly produced spot featured cut-up segments of Obama speeches underscored with dramatic orchestral music and solemn intonations by news anchors about rising food and gas prices, among other things.
People from across the political spectrum objected to the ad, saying that Fox has crossed a line into advocacy journalism, and thrown aside any pretense of journalistic objectivity. Even the neutral-to-a-fault Howard Kurtz wrote in The Daily Beast that the ad was “a classic piece of negative propaganda, scary music and all.”
Later on the day it debuted, he network itself disavowed the commercial, saying, “The package that aired on FOX & Friends was created by an associate producer and was not authorized at the senior executive level of the network. This has been addressed with the show’s producers.”
Today it has emerged that White had been offered a job at CNN before the video aired, but, according to a CNN spokesperson, that offer has been rescinded.
As for whether or not the producer will be able to remain at this current job, “Media Decoder” wrote, “Mr. White’s fate at Fox News is unclear.”
