Woman slaps Barrett over concession to Walker

A woman was caught on video slapping Milwaukee Mayor Tom Barrett (D) on Tuesday night because she felt that he was too quick to concede to Gov. Scott Walker (R).

The woman asked Barrett if she could slap him because she was upset that he conceded while she still believed that there were more votes to be counted, according to WISN’s Terry Sater. Barrett proposed a hug instead.

“He said the woman actually asked him, ‘Can I slap you?’ She was upset about him giving the concession speech while she still felt there were votes to be counted,” Slater reported. “He looked at her and said ‘I’d rather you hug me’ so he leaned down thinking that she was going to hug him and she slapped him.”

“That was sort of the end of the little spat they had going there. But the mayor really was just stunned that she’d actually reached up and slapped him. She was just upset — some of the passions of the evening coming out about the results here, the Democrats losing.”

In the end, voters decided by a 52 percent to 46 percent margin to let Walker finish his first term.
