Former Florida Gov. Jeb Bush (R) on Thursday said that President Barack Obama owed a debt of gratitude to his brother, George W. Bush, because he seemed to have adopted foreign policies similar to ones the former president put in place.

During an interview on CBS, host Charlie Rose noted that Obama had modeled some foreign policies after Jeb Bush’s father, former President George H.W. Bush.

“I don’t think he’s been as good at it — if it’s modeled after it,” Jeb Bush replied. “I would argue that in some ways by reality kind of seeping into life as the commander-in-chief that a lot of it is modeled after 43.”

“And it would be nice, a little tip of the hat might be a nice thing,” he added. “I think it would be helpful for him politically.”

“As a matter of courtesy [Obama] ought to say, ‘I have built on, in using drones and other things I have done, what President Bush 43 did’?” Rose wondered.

“Yeah,” the former Florida governor agreed. “I think it would help him politically. … Just a small acknowledgement that the guy that you replaced isn’t the source of every problem and the excuse for why you’re not being successful, I think, would help him politically.”
