An unpopular black elementary public school principal in Brooklyn, New York received a barrage of racist hate mail delivered to her over the past weeks, according to The New York Daily News Sunday evening.

The mail delivered to PS 90 Principal Greta Hawkins was nothing short of unpleasant and even featured one calling for her and others’ death.

“You are a filthy, dirty, ugly subhuman gorilla,” one person wrote to Hawkins.

“Let’s hope that AIDS will do what sickle cell anemia failed to do, exterminate your whole simian race,” another letter read.

Hawkins, who reportedly has been criticized herself for insensitive racial comments and unpopular decisions in the minds of teachers, students and parents, has yet to speak on the issue. She has taken major criticism for not allowing the school’s kindergarden student to sing “God Bless the USA” at their graduation later this month.

Both police and the New York City Department of Education are conducting an investigation into the matter and who sent the letters.

New York City School Chancellor Dennis Walcott said that he fully supports Hawkins.
