The Daily Show correspondent Aasif Mandvi on Friday thanked the American Civil Liberties Union of Southern California for giving him the 2012 Social Responsibility in Media Award.

He received the award “[f]or his work on Comedy Central’s The Daily Show, satirizing and offering commentary on Islamic, Middle Eastern and South Asian issues. And for making us laugh.”

During the ACLU’s 18th Annual Law Luncheon in Los Angeles, Mandvi joked that The Daily Show rarely took responsibility for anything.

“I really appreciate this award,” he said “It is a unique, tremendous honor.”

Mandvi also thanked the ACLU for their efforts to protect the constitutional rights of Muslims in the United States.
