In a bit of comic relief on Thursday, Secretary of State Hillary Clinton playfully jabbed Mike Hammer, her new Assistant Secretary of Public Affairs, over his love for the color purple, saying at his swearing-in ceremony that she lacked proper attire to celebrate appropriately.
“So, I’ve got to get appropriately attired — as you can see, the entire family is appropriately attired — and thanks to the good work of the [public affairs] staff…” she said, draping a string of purple beads over her head.
“And then, the pièce de résistance,” she joked, donning purple and green sunglasses to cheers and laughter from the audience. “So, let me formally welcome Mike’s family, the people in purple!”
