“Mugly,” an 8-year-old Chinese crested from the U.K., has won the “World’s Ugliest Dog” title for 2012. The New York Daily News reports that the former shelter dog’s short snout, beady eyes and tangled snarl of white whiskers won him the title, which was won last year by Yoda, a Chinese crested-chihuahua mix.

Mugly beat 28 other dogs in this year’s contest, netting a prize package that includes $1,000 and a year’s supply of dog biscuits. The contest is held each year at the Marin-Sonoma Fairgrounds in Petaluma, California, which is about 40 miles north of San Francisco.

Owner Bev Nicholson told the Daily News, “I couldn’t speak when they announced Mugly’s name. I didn’t know which way to look. I was shaking as much as the dog.”

And Mugly, as you can see in the video below, embedded via the Associated Press, shakes kind of a lot.
