A 29-year-old man from Tacoma, Washington has been charged with fraud and attempted theft after trying to extract $20,000 from his insurance company with two photos of cats that he found on the Internet.
According to The Seattle Times, Yevgeniy Samsonov attempted to obtain money based on a claim that his insurance company paid more than two years ago, when his vehicle was hit by a car in 2009. He reportedly received nearly $3,500 for the accident, but that wasn’t quite enough.
Earlier this year he approached his insurance company, Pemco, and told them that his pet cat had also died in the wreck, so they sent him a check for $50. But Samsonov balked and said the cat was “like a son,” and demanded a payment of $20,000.
