Conservative pundit and former Republican presidential candidate Pat Buchanan is hopeful that a woman will not become president of the United States for at least the next 30 years.

During a panel discussion on PBS over the weekend, host John McLaughlin asked Buchanan when the U.S. would elect the first female president.

“2040 or 2050,” Buchanan predicted.

“That late?” McLaughlin wondered.

“Let’s hope so,” Buchanan replied with a chuckle.

“They’re not even considering any woman for vice president on the Republican ticket,” he later added. “I was joking about 2040!”
