Comedian Sarah Silverman, known for her off-color humor and her 2008 work with “The Great Schlep” to encourage young Jewish voters to visit their grandparents in Florida to convince them to vote for Obama, is back with what she terms an “indecent” proposal for billionaire Republican donor Sheldon Adelson. Adelson, who first backed former House Speaker Newt Gingrich (R-GA) in the Republican primary, has offered former Governor Mitt Romney (R-MA) up to $100 million to help his campaign.
Silverman’s counter-offer: if Adelson will give that money to President Obama, she’ll engage in a certain sexual act with him.
“Well, I won’t have sex with you,” Silverman says to Adelson, “because we’re not married and I’m a nice girl.” Instead, Silverman proposes to “scissor” with Adelson while “wearing a bikini bottom, through to fruition.” For those who don’t quite understand what Silverman means to perform with Adelson, she then demonstrates the position with a small dog.
Billed by Silverman as “TRADITIONAL LESBIAN SEX!!!” scissoring commonly refers the act of dry-humping to climax as performed by two women with intertwined legs. Though the band “Scissor Sisters” takes its name from descriptions of the act, it wasn’t until scissoring was dramatized in the 2007 “South Park” episide “D-Yikes” that it achieved wide recognition in mainstream culture. Whether it describes a traditional or even common lesbian act remains up for debate.
The video directs viewers to the website Scissor Sheldon which, like The Great Schlep, is a project of the Jewish Council for Education and Research. The JCER says that it “uses humor, viral video, celebrity, and social media to break through the election year clutter and reach millions of voters,” and plans in 2012 to “confront the scare tactics used to peel away Jewish voters from the Obama campaign.” Adelson, who is Jewish, is a widely-recognized hawk on Israel policy whose support for Gingrich reportedly hinged on their mutual hardline stances on Israel and Iran. Adelson, unlike Obama, is vehemently opposed to a two-state solution in the region and Obama’s tax policies, particularly on wealth earned overseas.
