London cabbie improvises with ‘hotel-for-one’

With the London Olympics threatening to put a crimp on his business, one local cab driver improved his chances by converting his cab into a mini-motel, The Daily Mail reports.

“I’m offering the authentic London experience,” cabbie David Weekes said. “I know this city like the back of my hand so I can give you knowledge that you may not get from staying in a normal hotel room.”

The experience is certainly unique, albeit with a set of rules: for 50 pounds (about $75 dollars), you can stay in Weekes’ cab with a duvet, blanket, pillow and a reading light, but you can’t take her for a spin; the cab will stay in front of his east London home during your stay. But on the bright side, he’ll let you use his loo.

Weekes said business could be tricky otherwise this summer, since some newly installed Olympic-only lanes plus a major increase in visitors to the city – 500,000 tourists and 70,000 athletes and staff are expected to be in London this July and August – has already led to heavy traffic in parts of the city, which could scare tourists off of using cabs.
