Echoing comments previously made by comedian Bill Maher, Eric Boehlert of Media Matters said Monday that Republicans had created a false image of President Barack Obama as a radical.

“They are so far out on the ledge,” he said on Talking Liberally. “It’s not that ‘Obama has disappointed, I don’t like his policies, he has made us weak.’ It is, you know, ‘He is trying to destroy America.’”

“Why is he ahead in the polls?” Boehlert continued. “Why can’t your guy win by 19 points? I mean, there is this huge disconnect in this right wing bubble where Obama is a monster. He hates America. He’s a narcissist. He’s a Marxist. He’s a socialist. He is all of these awful things and then you take a step out of the bubble and he is ahead in all the swing states.”

He noted that polls showed voters rated Obama as more likable than Romney by a nearly 2-to-1 ratio.

“It really is this very dense bubble where they convince themselves he is this monster, but I honestly don’t know what they’re going to do on election night if he wins.”
