Maybe McKayla Maroney just figured, if you can’t beat the meme, be part of it.
According to Deadspin, the 16-year-old American Olympic gymnast posted a picture on her Instagram account Saturday taking part in the “McKayla Maroney Is Not Impressed” meme that’s been making the rounds since her silver-medal performance in the women’s vault competition last week.
The caption for the photo, with Maroney and teammates Aly Raisman and Kyla Ross, says “The pool is closed .. #notimpressed,” with the three of them scowling.
As the Los Angeles Times reported, the meme (with accompanying #notimpressed hashtag and Tumblr) took off after a photo surfaced of Maroney with her arms crossed and unhappy after the competition. Subsequently, people have created images of her looking on with disdain at everything from Simon Pegg movies to Muhammad Ali. But so far, Maroney seems to be taking her brush with online fame in stride, retweeting a fan’s giddy note when she discovered it. There’s also video of her teaching former First Daughter Jenna Bush how to do “the Dougie,” following an interview on NBC’s The Today Show.
