Stephen Colbert joined in on the chorus of pundits Monday applauding Mitt Romney for making a “bold” choice in selecting Rep. Paul Ryan (R-WI) to be his running mate – “So daring!” Colbert gushed. “I mean, white, Christian and male? That’s a triple non-threatening to me.” – though not without getting confused by Romney’s introductory gaffe for his new political BFF.
“What a relief!” Colbert said after playing the clip of Romney introducting Ryan as “the next President of the United States” Saturday. “For nine months now, I thought I was gonna have to vote for Mitt Romney.”
After getting his facts straight, Colbert pointed out that the Republican duo is already showing “that special chemistry,” appearing in interviews with matching shirts, before running a clip of “them in lycra” – a screenshot of Saturday Night Live‘s Ambiguously Gay Duo.
Colbert also seized on Ryan’s potential as a “dope” candidate for younger voters, citing his tax plan, which would allow Romney to pay .82 percent in taxes while cutting non-military programs by 91 percent over the next four decades, an eventual budget surplus that Colbert said would come in handy.
“We will need that defense spending to protect ourselves from the gangs of marauding seniors pillaging for Lipitor,” he said.
