Republican presidential hopeful Mitt Romney speaks to supporters near a coal mine in Beallsville, Ohio.

Romney attacked President Barack Obama’s position on coal, saying that Obama’s “disastrous energy policies” have meant fewer jobs. Obama has recently reversed his position on so-called “clean coal,” embracing it in a recent radio ad to the dismay of clean energy and environmental advocates. Romney opposes regulations put on coal mines under the Clean Air Act and has been ambivalent on action to curb climate change.
