Piers Morgan warns Todd Akin: Don’t be a ‘gutless little twerp’

CNN host Piers Morgan on Monday expressed his disappointment that Rep. Todd Akin (R-MO) failed to show up for his scheduled interview.

“Why would he say yes, then no?” Morgan wondered, showing an empty chair. “We can only speculate. But we can tell you this. Todd Akin has until tomorrow to say whether he is staying in the race or bowing out.”

Akin, who is running for Senate in Missouri, received a barrage of criticism after claiming over the weekend that women could not become pregnant from “legitimate rape.” Republicans have called for him to drop out of the Senate race.

If Akin withdraws his bid for office by 5 p.m. on Tuesday, the Missouri GOP central committee will be able to pick his replacement.

“Congressman, you have an open invitation to join me in that chair whenever you feel up to it,” Morgan said. “Because if you don’t keep your promise to appear on the show, then you are, what we would call in Britain, a gutless little twerp.”
