Life, rape, duck vaginas and Todd Akin: A podcast with Jamelle Bouie and Pat Caldwell
Yesterday, Jamelle Bouie and Pat Caldwell of The American Prospect invited me to do a podcast about Rep. Todd Akin’s (R-MO) now-infamous “legitimate rape” comments. Among other things, we discuss how the conservatives like Akin and Rep. Paul Ryan (R-WI) who want to eliminate abortion, limit or eliminate access to non-barrier birth control, keep women from getting the morning-after pill Plan B, teach abstinence-only sex education and define which rapes are “legitimate” in the eyes of the government aren’t trying to keep women from saying yes to sex. Instead, they’re trying to keep them from saying no to sex (and having it matter) and from saying no to the potential consequences of sex.
