Former model and actress Janine Turner at the Republican National Convention on Tuesday night warned that men could take away your rights.
“God gives us our rights, not government. If man gives us our rights, then man can take them away,” she said near the end of her speech, putting special emphasis on the word “man.”
“As James Madison forewarned, and history has proven, ‘men are not angels,’” Turner added.
Republicans this year have fought off allegations that they are waging a legislative “war on women.” Republicans have pushed through a record number of bills to reduce access to legal abortions since taking over many state legislatures in 2010. Members of the GOP have also sought to defund Planned Parenthood, which provides preventative health care to lower-income women, and restrict access to contraception.
Most of Turner’s speech was dedicated to bashing President Barack Obama, claiming he didn’t respect the Constitution and pushed a “gimme mentality” on Americans.
“America was built with her hands at work, not with her hands out,” she said, alluding to the theme of the Convention, “We built this.”
