Texas pilot killed in crash during Iowa air show

A video of a Labor Day weekend air show documents the death of a pilot who crashed as thousands of spectators watched.

The Amarillo Globe-News reported the pilot was 59-year-old Glenn Smith, who retired from a Dallas-area technology firm to restore and fly Soviet-area fighter jets for air shows around the country. Smith’s plane crashed during the Quad-City Air Show on Sunday in Davenport, Iowa.

Senior air safety inspector Aaron Sauer said the National Transportation Safety Board in investigating the incident and a preliminary report can be expected within the week, though a full investigation is expected to take several months.

Smith had been a licensed pilot for over 25 years.
