Several people were rushed to hospitals after a riot at Folsom Prison, according to Sacramento, California’s KCRA TV Channel 3.

Sacramento Metropolitan Fire Department officials confirmed that multiple persons were taken in for treatment, but did not specify the number of injured or what type of injuries. Initial reports said 3 individuals were being treated, but a spokesperson later estimated that the number could be closer to 8.

The fire department posted on Twitter Wednesday morning that units were responding to reports of possible shots fired and a riot at 100 Prison Road.

A prison official told KRCA after noon on Wednesday that the prison was “in total chaos.”
