Selma Blair is: ‘The Woman for Mitt Romney’

In a piece of campaign satire published by Funny or Die on Thursday, actress Selma Blair takes on the fictional role of the only woman in America who’s supporting Mitt Romney for president.

During the two and a half minute spot, Blair insists that instead of equal pay she wants her money to “go to destroying the Middle East,” explains that she doesn’t like making “whoopee,” and cautions that “schmecks” (i.e. “sex”) should only be engaged in “when you need to be shot full of kids, like Mitt did to Ann.”

It closes with Blair holding a baby, insisting that Romney has “stood firm and not compromised on compromising women’s rights.”

“It’s simple,” she says, throwing a fake smile at the camera. “A vote for Mitt Romney is a vote against something I don’t like: Me.”

In all fairness, there’s a lot more than just one woman supporting Romney’s candidacy. A Pew Research Center poll released Monday found that both Obama and Romney have about 47 percent support among women, representing a big jump for Romney and a big drop for Obama following the first presidential debate. Still, a Bloomberg News Swing Voter poll in Ohio and Virginia published Tuesday found that Obama still retains his edge among unmarried women.

Since then, Romney appears to have thrown off the ardently anti-abortion stance he adopted during the Republican primaries, telling voters on Tuesday that he will not push legislation to ban abortion. The candidate and his campaign took that back the very next day, however, reversing his position for a second time in less than a week. Romney now says simply that he will be “a pro-life president,” but offers no details as to what that means.

“Either Romney has changed his position on these issues, or he is lying about the content of his agenda,” Michael Keegan, President of liberal advocacy group People For the American Way, said in an advisory on Wednesday. “Either way, voters deserve to know the truth about Romney’s anti-choice agenda.”
