As television viewers around the country monitored the progress of Hurricane Sandy Monday morning, WRC-TV stumbled into one man apparently dealing with the storm by taking an unusual morning jog.

Reporter Megan McGrath discovered the unidentified man, jogging shirtless and wearing a horse mask over his head, while filing a report from northwest Washington D.C.

“Perhaps some people are getting a little stir crazy early in this thing,” McGrath said with a laugh. “I don’t know where he came from, but I guess there’s an attitude with storms: you can either be scared and, you know, hide in your house, or you can have a sense of humor about it, and that’s all I can say about that guy, is I think he’s got a sense of humor about it.”

As McGrath finished her description, the man turned toward the camera and raised his arms before resuming his jog. Not long after his close-up, the jogger started getting attention on social media.

Watch video of the mysterious jogger’s impromptu close-up, posted on YouTube by “apeyksk” Monday, below.

Update: The jogger has identified himself as a Reddit user known as “HowToJimmyK,” posting a picture on a thread called, “Just out for a little jog today before the hurricane hits.”

Update: DCist reported that it had heard from the jogger under his real name, Jimmy Kruyne, saying he “just wanted to brighten people’s moods” as the storm drew closer.
