A wrecked bass guitar smashed up during the music video for Nirvana’s “Smells Like Teen Spirit” is set to fetch up to 25,000 pounds (40,000 dollars, 31,000 euros) when it is sold next month, auctioneers said Tuesday.

The remains of the guitar are being sold by Christie’s in London at a sale which will also feature memorabilia from Bob Dylan.

Nirvana bassist Krist Novoselic bought the bass from a pawn shop just before the trio’s 1991 video shoot, only for late frontman Kurt Cobain to trash it.

A teenage extra from the video saved the body of the guitar from the dark studio where the band rocked out before a rowdy audience and dancing cheerleaders.

“Smells Like Teen Spirit” propelled the band to worldwide fame. Cobain committed suicide in 1994 aged 27.

The November 29 auction will also include lots such as Indiana Jones’s whip and Dylan’s 1958 high school yearbook, complete with a written message from the young singer-songwriter.
