A 56-year-old Russian woman became a hero in her village this week after she used an axe to kill a wolf that had locked its deadly jaws around her arm.

Aishat Maksudova, from the village of Novo Biryuzak in Dagestan, told a photographer with Reuters that she “was not even frightened” when the beast attacked.

“The wolf clawed my leg, and I wanted to hit him with an axe,” she said. “When I raised my arm up like this, the wolf was just holding my hand. Trying to claw my hand. I wanted to open his mouth and put my fist all the way there, all the way to his throat. But I could not open his jaws.”

Grabbing the wolf’s head, she couldn’t break free, so Aishat did the only other thing that seemed logical: she swung the axe until it fell to the ground, dead.
