An explosion fueled by a gas leak has injured eight people and destroyed two buildings in downtown Springfield, Massachusetts, including a local strip club.

According to WLLP-TV, a gas leak was reported in the area prior to the explosion, giving authorities time to evacuate people from nearby buildings. The club, Scores, was closed at the time of the blast.

The force of the explosion, which happened around 5:30 pm EST, tore apart the building’s facade, and left debris strewn along the downtown area.

Among the injured were a local police officer, two firefighters, and a photographer from another station, WGGB-TV, which reported that the blast could be felt in neighboring communities as far away as Belchertown, which is 18 miles from Springfield.
