A two-year-old boy was found abandoned in a Springfield, Massachusetts K-Mart store’s parking lot late Friday night. According to Springfield’s WWLP News 22, the boy was left in 34-year-old Anthony Perry’s Nissan Venza while Perry went into the store to buy a 51-inch television.
Police found the boy sleeping in the car at about 1:30 a.m. after passersby called to report the abandonment. Perry had returned home with his new television hours earlier without ever reporting the child missing.
Springfield Police Captain Cheryl Claprood told WWLP that Perry denied abandoning the boy, saying that the child had gotten away from him in the store. The toddler’s mother, Perry’s girlfriend, left the boy in Perry’s care while she went to work.
The boy was taken to a hospital and checked out. The Department of Family and Children’s Services will decide what happens to him next.
Police offered no explanation as to how Perry returned home without his car.
