Actor Don Cheadle reprised his megalomaniac take on 1990s cartoon character Captain Planet in a rather darkly comic new short released by Funny or Die Wednesday, transforming friends and foes alike into foliage.

“How about it? Wanna be a tree?” he sneers at one would-be ally. “You got tree envy, bitch? Wanna feel your bones brittle like wood?”

The unlikely series of shorts began a year ago, with Cheadle’s Captain, once a tree-hugging do-gooder, turning on his youthful sidekicks, the Planeteers, in a video that has amassed nearly 5 million views. A second episode was released two weeks ago showing him tracing a green path of destruction worldwide.

In the third and penultimate installment, we learn that only Ma-Ti (Efren Ramírez) remains by Planet’s side.

“You’ve taken everything from me, el capitan,” Ma-Ti says, finally standing up for himself at one point. “The Planeteers, my freedom, mi familia, that monkey. But you’ll never — you’ll never take my heart!”

Watch the results of Ma-Ti’s defiance, posted Wednesday by Funny or Die, below.
