A Baltimore blogger and internet broadcaster aired his standoff with police Saturday night as a SWAT team stood outside his house.
According to The Baltimore Sun, police went to Frank James MacArthur’s home Saturday to serve an outstanding warrant from from a 2009 gun case against him. MacArthur insisted throughout the broadcast on his website, Baltimore Spectator, that he was not notified about the warrant before the Baltimore Police Department brought the tactical team to his home.
The broadcast has included MacArthur’s phone conversation with a police negotiator who attempted to convince him to exit and talk to investigators. MacArthur said he is airing the discussion because he fears for his life.
“The only thing that continues this response at the level that it’s at is that you haven’t come out,” the negotiator said. “We have no interest in coming in and getting you. We’re both here for the same end, which is that we want you to end this peacefully.”
The negotiator said police knocked at MacArthur’s door earlier in the day to serve the warrant, but MacArthur responded that no one at his door ever identified himself as an officer, and that he did not answer the door because he felt threatened by what he described as “a loud stomping” that put him in a defensive position.
“I felt under threat to personal safety,” he said. “I tell you this in all sincerity.”
