On his show Monday night, The Daily Show host Jon Stewart sharply mocked Fox News over the issue of gun control.

Earlier this month, NBC sportscaster Bob Costas read out-loud portions of a piece by Fox Sports.com columnist Jason Whitlock during his regular halftime segment. The article ripped into American gun culture following a murder-suicide incident involving Kansas City Chiefs player Jovan Belcher.

As Stewart noted, Fox News personalities were outraged that a sportscaster would interrupt the halftime segment with non-football news.

“So halftime isn’t the right time,” Stewart concluded. “What about at a press conference? Like after the Aurora shootings when the mayor of New York called for an examination of gun laws?”

This time, however, Fox News personalities were outraged at the time of the gun control talk.

“Clearly in that situation it is not where it is being discussed, it is when,” Stewart remarked. “I am assuming that the venue was good, it is just that the mayor did not obey the common sense waiting period we place on gun, ah, conversations. You don’t want somebody in an emotional state just shooting off their mouths about gun control.”
