An recent archeological dig discovered a cemetery in Mexico that contained “alien”-looking children’s skulls, reported ABC News.

Of the 25 total skulls found, 13 of them, roughly 1,000 years old, have purposefully “deformed heads” in shapes reminiscent of the aliens on the old SNL skit “The Coneheads.”

Cristina Garcia Moreno, part of the excavation team, told ABC News that scientists hypothesize societies shaped the heads by placing wood beams on both sides of a person’s — or child’s — head and then securing them tightly in place with rope.

“We don’t know why this population specifically deformed their heads,” she said, although added that some cultures do so to differentiate important individuals.
