U.S. Sen. Michael Crapo (R-ID) was arrested and charged with driving under the influence in Alexandria, Va, reported the AP. He was pulled over after running a red light and did not pass sobriety tests, arrested at 12:45 a.m. on Sunday, and released on bond at 5:00 a.m.

Crapo issued an apology for the incident, reported Politico. It read in part, “I am deeply sorry for the actions that resulted in this circumstance. I made a mistake for which I apologize to my family, my Idaho constituents and any others who have put their trust in me. I accept total responsibility and will deal with whatever penalty comes my way in this matter.”

Crap was elected to the House of Representatives in 1992 and to the Senate in 1998.
