Former Democratic House representative Gabrielle Giffords visited Newtown, Conn., on Friday, where a December massacre ended with the death of almost 30 children and adults, reported the AP.

Giffords was critically injured in a shooting in Arizona in early 2011, where six people were killed.

In Newtown, Giffords, with her husband Mark Kelly, met with the families of the victims during a private event and earlier met with Lt. Gov. Nancy Wyman and the town’s first selectman.

After the Connecticut shootings, Kelly wrote on Facebook, “The children of Sandy Hook Elementary School and all victims of gun violence deserve leaders who have the courage to participate in a meaningful discussion about our gun laws – and how they can be reformed and better enforced to prevent gun violence and death in America. This can no longer wait,” reported Politico.
