The owner of a new marijuana club in Colorado, along with the club’s attorney, talked to Cenk Uygur on The Young Turks on Friday and discussed the club’s growing popularing and the risk of the federal government attempting to squash the state’s move to legalize the drug.

“We have a big waiting list of members, and the amount of positive energy this club has created has been amazing, you know,” said Robert Corry, attorney for the club. “The government’s probably our best friend because enacting prohibition for so long, demand went up and up and up and up. Finally the voters unleashed our freedom in our state and people want to get together, want to exercise their constitutional rights together, and want to associate with each other. And that’s what Club 64 is all about.”

He went on that “no fighting, no assaults” took place at the club’s first meeting, arguing that those were “problems that you see in the other type of club, namely bars and alcohol clubs.”

The club itself does not sell the drug — members instead bring their own marijuana.

Uygur asked whether they feared a raid from the federal government.

“President Barack Obama said, right after Amendment 64 passed, that he, quote, has bigger fish to fry, that was his exact word, and the U.S. Department of Justice and Barack Obama had the opportunity to opine on Amendment 64, and they opted not to do so during the campaign. And the federal government, the U.S. Department of Justice, has much better things to do,” he said.

He added that Amendment 64 “received 50,000 more votes in Colorado than did Barack Obama.”

“They know that marijuana is literally more popular in our state than Barack Obama,” he said.
