Update below: Airline claims it didn’t serve alcohol to minor.
The son of Senator Rand Paul (R-KY) was arrested Saturday morning at the Charlotte Douglas International Airport, according to The Charlotte Observer.
The 19-year-old William Hilton Paul was reportedly arrested after the plane landed for public intoxication, and ultimately charged with underage consumption and disorderly conduct as well.
A police spokesperson said that he was “possibly served alcohol on the flight,” but it wasn’t immediately clear where he got the booze. He was released the same day on a $750 bond.
“Sen. Paul is a national public figure and subject to scrutiny in the public arena, however, as many parents with teenagers would understand, his family should be afforded the privacy and respect they deserve in a situation such as this,” a Paul aide explained in a prepared statement.
Update: According to McClatchy, US Airways says that the airline didn’t serve alcohol to 19-year-old William Hilton Paul.
