Nancy Keenan, who is stepping down as the president of NARAL Pro-choice America, warned Monday night that access to abortion would continue to be imperiled by lawmakers.

She said “anti-choice politicians” in Congress were “hell bent” on rolling back women’s reproductive rights. The situation was reflected in many state legislatures as well.

“The battle is on all fronts,” Keenan said. “I think the most critical to all this is that we have to make sure we defeat anti-choice politicians and elect pro-choice politicians to stop this nonsense that we’re seeing both at the state level and the federal level.”

She added that “nonsense” about abortion was now part of the GOP brand, “because the most extreme of that party have taken over the party.”
