Republican Rep. Paul Broun of Georgia thinks the only Constitution that President Barack Obama swears allegiance to is the Constitution of the Soviet Union.

“I think my role is to uphold support and defend our Constitution,” Broun told the Atlanta Journal-Constitution on Tuesday afternoon.

“The Constitution I uphold and defend is the one I carry in my pocket all the time, the U.S. Constitution,” Broun continued. “I don’t know what Constitution that other members of Congress uphold, but it’s not this one. I think the only Constitution that Barack Obama upholds is the Soviet constitution, not this one. He has no concept of this one, though he claimed to be a constitutional lawyer.”

Broun is no stranger to outlandish, controversial comments. The congressman has previously said Obama was secretly planning to declare martial law and turn the United States into a totalitarian state by enlarging the government-run volunteer group AmeriCorps. He claimed the group of social workers and educators would act as Obama’s personal police force.

“They’re trying to develop an environment where they can take over,” Broun said of Democrats back in 2009. “We’ve seen that historically.”
