Republican South Carolina Sen. Lindsey Graham on Sunday declared that he and Sen. John McCain (R-AZ) were “hell-bent” on continuing to investigate the September 2012 attacks that killed four Americans in Benghazi.

In an appearance together on CBS News, both McCain and Graham suggested that they would hold up John Brennan’s nomination to be director of the Central Intelligence Agency if the Obama administration did not produce more information about the September attacks.

“This is to learn,” Graham explained to CBS host Bob Schieffer. “I think Benghazi is exhibit A in a failed foreign policy. Leading from behind is not working and we’re trying to find out what happened on that night so we won’t have other Benghazis. And I’m not going to vote for Brennan until the CIA — who said they did change the talking points — lets us know who did it and why and we have a picture of what happened in real time in Benghazi.”

“I think John and and I are hell-bent on making sure the American people understand the debacle called Benghazi,” he coninued. “We’re going to get to the bottom of it.”

McCain agreed that “we deserve at least an answer,” but added that “we hate to threaten” to block Brennan’s nomination.

“The story tomorrow will be McCain and Graham threatened to [block Brennan]… why don’t we just get the answers to these questions?” the Arizona Republican opined. “It’s our responsibilities under [the Senate power of] ‘advise and consent’ to get answers to questions about important positions.”

“I’m not going to vote on a new CIA director until I find out what the CIA did in Benghazi,” Graham insisted.

According to Merriam-Webster, “hell-bent” is defined as “stubbornly and often recklessly determined or intent.”
