On Monday night, Rachel Maddow, host of “The Rachel Maddow Show,” stopped by “The Tonight Show with Jay Leno” and discussed the decision by the organizers of the 2013 Conservative Political Action Conference (CPAC) not to invite New Jersey’s Gov. Chris Christie to this year’s conference, but rather to include businessman and reality show host Donald Trump.
“CPAC,” said “Tonight Show” host Jay Leno, “That convention is this week, right? I assume you’re not invited.”
“I went one year,” Maddow said. “I had one guy scream at me on an escalator. It got spit all over my face. But aside from that, people were very nice.”
She went on to report that at the conference she attended, there were doormats with MSNBC hosts’ faces on them. “Which I thought was kind of awesome,” she said. “Merchandising for us! Thank you!”
She went on to discuss the controversy around the conference this year in that the organizers did not invite some of the biggest names in the Republican Party, including Gov. Chris Christie (NJ) who is currently enjoying the highest popularity ratings of any Republican in the country.
“But they did invite, like, Donald Trump,” she said. “So, it’s hard to see where the future of the conservative movement is if it’s not Chris Christie but it might be Donald Trump. But who am I to judge? Go for it, guys. Hit it!”
