The father of a Tennessee teenager tweeted “GOD IS GOOD” after his daughter emerged from surgery after a vicious random stabbing by a homeless man in an East Liberty, Pennsylvania Target store. According to Pittsburgh’s WTAE, 16-year-old Allison Meadows was waiting in line with family members when a homeless man burst into the store and began stabbing her repeatedly before being subdued by horrified onlookers.

Several people were injured in the incident, which turned into a melee as shoppers took down the knife-wielding attacker, identified as Leon Michael Walls, with fists and a baseball bat.

“He kept stabbing her. Me and like four or five other guys, they ran and tackled him … He cut the one guy’s lip almost off. The other guy’s finger was, like, hanging off,” said one witness to WTAE.

Silverdale Baptist Academy in Chattanooga, TN, where Meadows is a sophomore, posted a message to its Facebook page thanking God for saving the girl’s life.

“After hearing the actual details of the attack, only God could have saved her life,” the page read. “Our job now should be to pray for the Meadows family and Allison, show our love and support, and be there for them should they need us. Praise God that this little girl was being watched over and she we will be back home soon.”

When Meadows emerged from surgery, her father took to her Twitter account to proclaim “Hey guys this is Allison’s dad thanks for all your prayers. GOD IS GOOD. She just got out of surgery.”

The criminal complaint filed in the case said that Walls first attacked a man named Jobe Wright with a kitchen knife at a construction site down the street from the Target store, resulting in a brawl. Walls, 41, fled into the store, pursued by Wright and another man, Tyrique Walker, who called 911 to alert police.

Walls and Walker tangled briefly inside the store before Walls ran to the checkout lines and seized Meadows, who he began to stab repeatedly. The girl suffered a collapsed lung and other injuries, but is expected to survive. Police reported that one officer and the suspect were treated for exposure to pepper spray, and that the two men who were cut while attempting to subdue Walls were also treated for their injuries, none of which are believed to be life-threatening.
