A 25-year-old Ohio man has been accused of shooting and killing his father after Easter services outside a church in Ashtabula.

The Star Beacon reported that 25-year-old Reshad Riddle killed 52-year-old Richard Riddle on Sunday with a single gunshot, and then entered Hiawatha Church of God in Christ, where he shouted that the killing was “the will of Allah. This is the will of God.”

“It was terrifying,” church associate pastor Sean Adams said, recalling that church members had hidden children under pews. “The children were screaming and people were dialing 911. We were afraid to breathe.”

When police arrived Reshad Riddle was still in the church holding the gun, which he put down when asked. He was taken into custody without incident.

County Coroner Pamela Lancaster said that the gunshot was “immediately fatal” to Richard Riddle.

Ashtabula Police Chief Robert Stell was not immediately aware of any motive for the shooting.

Reshad Riddle was “arrested and charged with two counts of felonious assault, kidnapping, abduction and tampering with evidence in 2006,” according to the Star Beacon. “In 2007, Reshad Riddle faced a felonious assault charge and in 2009 he was charged with possession of drugs, tampering with evidence and possession of cocaine, court records show.”
