On Tuesday, police in Englewood, New Jersey arrested 53-year-old Larry Dungey for the second time in four days for pulling a knife in arguments over Dungey’s dogs. According to NJ.com, Dungey had only been home from jail for two days after his last arrest when police were summoned to his home for a disturbance involving a weapon.
“I really can’t remember someone getting arrested twice, within days of each other, over dogs, and both times involving an assault with a knife,” said Detective Captain Tim Torell of the Englewood Police Department. “This is one for the books.”
Last Thursday night, Dungey was walking his dogs when they jumped on a neighbor, frightening the man and starting a dispute in which Dungey stabbed the neighbor in the hand with a six inch knife. Dungey, who has previously served time for a burglary conviction, was taken into custody and charged with second-degree aggravated assault, possession of a weapon, possession of a weapon for an unlawful purpose and possession of a weapon by a convicted felon.
Monday evening, Dungey and his roommate got into an argument about Dungey’s dogs defecating in their house. The dispute quickly escalated and Dungey grabbed a knife and threatened to stab the man before fleeing.
The roommate called police, who arrested Dungey when he returned home at 1:00 a.m. Tuesday and took him back to the Bergen County Jail, where he was charged with domestic violence assault by menace and more counts of weapons possession.
