Te assignment asked students to “pretend you are a member of the government in Nazi Germany” and research Nazi propaganda. “You must argue that Jews are evil, and use solid rationale from government propaganda to convince me of your loyalty to the Third Reich!” the assignment instructed. About a third of students refused to complete the assignment
“I would apologize to our families,” Albany Superintendent Marguerite Vanden Wyngaard said. “I don’t believe there was malice or intent to cause any insensitivities to our families of Jewish faith.” Wyngaard added that the assignment was worded in an “offensive manner,” but the teacher who issued the assignment was not identified.
