Five people were killed Sunday night in a Seattle, Washington suburb, including one man shot dead by police after allegedly reaching for a gun as they arrived on the scene.

KOMO-TV reported that authorities initially found the unidentified man wounded and lying on the ground in a parking lot while responding to reports of gunfire at an apartment complex in Federal Way.

Police said they found two other men in the parking lot already dead and another man and one woman dead in separate apartments inside the complex.

Federal Way police spokesperson Cathy Schrock told the Associated Press on Sunday that authorities are investigating whether the woman was accidentally shot. No motive has been identified for the gunfire initially reported by residents.

“We’re gonna continue to go door to door in hopes that we can find some additional witnesses, and hopefully we won’t be finding any more victims.” she said. “We still don’t have any idea what started this disturbance tonight.”

The eight officers who shot at the man, Schrock said, were placed on administrative leave.
