A DeLand, Florida family filed a restraining order Thursday against a 29-year-old West Volusia, Florida man who allegedly kicked John Molhem, 34, repeatedly in the groin, then threw rocks at their house and vehicles, striking their 3-year-old son in the stomach.
According to the Daytona Beach News-Journal online, John Brown assaulted John Molhem on Monday when a discussion over the sale of a fishing boat turned violent.
Brown and 20-year-old Karina Diaz arrived at John and Nichole Molhem’s DeLand, Florida home on Monday morning demanding the title for a boat Brown was purchasing from the Molhems. Brown still owed $500 on the purchase and the Molhem’s refused to surrender the title to him without receiving the rest of the money.
“He just wouldn’t stop. He just insisted that I do it, saying, ‘I want the title in my my name,’” John Molhem told Orlando’s WESH. “I said, ‘Listen, you haven’t paid me yet. You’ll get it when you’ve paid in full.’”
The argument got more and more heated until Diaz allegedly punched Nichole Molhem, 37, in the face. John Molhem said he attempted to separate the brawling women, but Brown attacked him, kicking him three times in the testicles.
Molhem admits that he elbowed Diaz in the face, saying that he was trying to protect his wife from “severe physical damage.”
The Molhems say that Brown began to pick up rocks and throw them at the house and their vehicles, damaging John Molhem’s pickup truck and shattering a front window of the house. The rock punched through the glass and struck the Molhem’s toddler son in the stomach.
The boy was only bruised, but the family told WESH that he was traumatized by the event.
“(Our son) had some bruising and swelling. He’s just scared,” Nicole Molhem said. “He doesn’t want to go to bed at night.”
The Molhem’s alerted sheriff’s deputies, who arrived on the scene and took Brown to jail, charging him with throwing a deadly missile and aggravated battery. Since he was released from jail, Brown and Diaz have reportedly called the Molhems multiple times and threatened the family.
“Every phone call is different. It’s either her or him, saying, “I’m going to kill you. I’m going to hurt one of you guys,” John Molhem reported.
“I feel like a prisoner. I can’t even go outside anymore with my kids,” Nicole Molhem said. “I’m just asking, ‘Please stop doing this.’”
