A Ohio Catholic high school student was rushed to the hospital on Monday after he reportedly pulled out a gun in a classroom and shot himself in what was thought to be a possible suicide attempt.

According to The Cincinnati Enquirer, Hamilton County police confirmed that a student at La Salle High School had been taken to University Hospital after the self-inflicted gunshot wound. His condition was not immediately known.

“A student produced a gun inside one of the classrooms and shot himself and we’re dealing with that now,” a law enforcement official told reporters at a press conference. “There were other students in the classroom.”

La Salle High School Director of Community Development Greg Tankerlsey also asked members of the public to pray for the student and his family.

The Hamilton County Sheriff’s Office and Green Township police said that the gun had been recovered, and that the school was no longer considered to be an active shooting scene.

Parents arriving at the school to pick up their children were being directed to the cafeteria. Students had been gathered in the gymnasium.
