House Budget Committee chairman Paul Ryan (R-WI) has ruled out seeking the White House in 2016 — at least for now.
“I’m ruling out thinking about it right now,” he said in video uploaded to YouTube by the Milwaukee-Wisconsin Journal Sentinel.
“I really don’t think it is in my interest as a congressman to be thinking about some promotion three and a half years down the road,” he continued. “That will cloud my judgment from doing my job today. So, I have made an explicit decision, ‘Don’t think about some political campaign down the road.’”
Ryan is expected to join Sens. Marco Rubio (R-FL) and Rand Paul (R-KY) to run for the nation’s highest office in 2016.
He told Fox News last month that being the running mate of Republican presidential candidate Mitt Romney made the prospect of launching his own White House bid seem “more realistic in my mind.”
